Fire on 31st and Smith

There was a flurry of activity on 31st and Smith this afternoon as firefighters flew into action to put out a small house fire.

Incident Commander Lieutenant Alec Emerson says the fire was “likely caused by food left cooking on the stove, which burned a wooden cutting board.”? Noboday was home when the fire started, but luckily, neighbor Vin was out for a walk:

“We live a couple of blocks away and were walking by the house.? We heard the fire alarm going off, and saw the smoke.? I called 911. The?fire trucks came and they busted down the doors to get the dogs out.”

Looks like a burned cutting board to this MV reporter

Fortunately, SFD was able to get the family pets out and?quickly put the fire out.? When we left the scene, Seattle Fire was trying to contact the homeowners.

Dogs, safe and sound

    1. The residents there spent a great deal of money on their remodel. I feel sorry for the smoke damage. Electrical wiring, even for appliances PLUGGED IN BUT TURNED OFF can cause fires. Ask the fire marshall. No one is 100% safe from a fire unless you know what is going on behind your wall insulation, so a bit of compassion please.

      1. Owner here… Thankful you for the compassion! Luckily, electrical problems weren’t the cause…hungry dogs climbing on stove top for pizza are the culprits…they turned on a burner that had a wooden cutting board over it. Unbelievable! And dear Uncle Moak has witnessed our dogs absconding with pizza in days of yore…indeed our labs love pepperoni.
