Calling all?GLEEKS!? Ballard high school will be the only Seattle high school to host a benefit concert with Glee star and Washington native, Derik Nelson. This concert is part of the Take Chances Tour 2013, which is a program that provides opportunity to raise much needed fund for music and drama departments for high schools across the west coast through ticket sales. From the artist’s website:

The Take Chances Tour will tour high schools on the West Coast with an educational, motivational, and inspirational master class presented by working industry professionals in an effort to enlighten and prepare students for career opportunities in the entertainment industry. Coupled with the master class will be an evening live concert component which will act as a risk-free fundraising opportunity for the school?s ASB/Arts/Music programs, thereby advocating and enforcing the importance of the arts as a foundational pillar of public education. OUR GOAL Our Fall 2013 goal is to raise a total of $100,000 for 30 high school arts & music programs across Washington, Oregon, and California.

Nelson’s bio is impressive:

Derik is a singer, songwriter, and producer, who can currently be seen every week as the guitarist on the FOX television show “Glee.” His singing voice has been heard on FOX’s?”Raising Hope” and “New Girl,” CBS?s ?How I Met Your Mother,? NBC?s ?Go On? and ?The Voice,? and his original music has been featured on the WB hit TV series “Felicity,” as well as the feature film ?Commencement.?
Ballard parent Nanette, (CORRECTION)?Co-VP Fundraiser for Ballard High School Performing Arts Booster (and a Magnolia mom) says the school forged a bond with Nelson in last year:
“We got lucky. During BHS’s run of “The Sound of Music”, he was at the gala.??Derik was a student of our current drama director. When he came, he knew that we needed to raise money for our drama?department. It doesn’t cost us anything- all the money goes to the drama department!”
Performing with a full band, the?pop-rock concert will last for about 90? minutes, with no intermission.??Click here for tickets and more info- prices range from $15.00 to $30.00. Questions? Please contact Nanette M. at (206) 470-4720.

The singer?will also be performing at Northgate Barnes & Noble Bookstore,?
