  1. Went last night, apart from a fresh coat of paint and bright new lights, what was changed to make it great? Same setup, same brands, same prices. Didn’t see anything special and was a bit disappointed with the lack of change.

Was hoping it would become more like a whole foods and carry different brands than at your normal grocery chains and have better produce, deli and butcher sections. Unfortunately they are still carrying mostly what can be purchased at QFC and Albertsons, just at higher prices.

    1. I noticed a lot of different brands — especially at the deli counter, and in the bread section. But for the most part, it is pretty much the same. The store is laid out the same, even to keeping the same aisle boards. (First thing my seven-year-old noticed was that the wood floors were gone from the wine aisle. Don’t ask me how he caught onto that so fast.) I’m betting they’ve done the research to show that frequent customers would be more put out by a huge rearranging of the store than by a change on the sign outside.

  2. I am glad to hear that it doesn’t have many drastic changes, glad they still have the same brands. it is great not to have to drive out of Mags.

Mr. Emerson, sounds like you just need to continue shopping at Whole Foods

  3. Only a sign change. Everything the same inside. Products all in same places. Same inventory. So really same old same old…

    1. Good to hear! I liked the Thriftway selection. A small store that sells high-quality ingredients. Sign me up.

  4. The three things I shop for most out of Magnolia are Boars head meats, Macrina breads, French wines and deli items that aren’t laden with mayo or high in fat. So far, that meant no Whole Foods and sent me way too far up north. Is the new Met Market good on these things or does their deli have the usual deli meats with the salts and additives in it? QFC had Boar’s head and terrible desserts…oh well.

  5. Live down the sreet from Met Market but haven’t been in yet. I walk my dog and noticed what seemed like a very warm welcome from Magnolia people to the Met Market which was great. Their store on QA is fabulous so around the bend so will Maggies be.
To the person that is after good deli meats Dietz&Watson can’t be beat, no MSG good level of sodium and very tasty and can be found at Albertsons. (no i don’t work there)

    1. Albertson’s doesn’t seem to get enough traffic through their store to keep their (sparse selection of) deli meat fresh for human consumption.

  6. It was nice to see some familiar staff faces & like it has been said, they have same layout. We are missing the DVD rental box & a few product lines. Most of the prices are a tad higher. Nothing really new & exciting.

  7. I went in today to see the changes they made. Fresh coat of paint, new floor..that was nice. The deli area looked more full with different bowls and the presentation of salads looked nicer.
The prices floored me. Thriftway was not cheap by any means, but there were deals to be had. Now, in price comparison…this is the deal breaker for me. A lot of items I usually would buy I found them quite a bit more expensive. QFC has a whole cooked deli rotisserie chicken for $6.99….sometimes it’s $5.99. Met Market has the same for over $10. Duh! Produce Department…just about everything way more expensive.
I have shopped at that store when it was Richard’s, then Red Apple, then Thriftway, now this. I think my days there are over. It’s as though the heart and soul is gone. Albertson’s produce is the worst of any store…I still have no idea why they continue to keep that place open. So its QFC, Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s for me. Met Market is definately off my radar…and its a shame because its only 3 blocks from my house. I feel sad for alot of the employees who had been there for a long time only to lose their jobs with the new regime.

  8. I wish they had a salad bar like the one in Queen Anne. Our one in Magnolia does not seem to have as many awesome prepared foods, and I am surprised they would hike up the prices on regular brand canned goods so much.

  9. I think the change is a good one- this store seems fresher and cleaner. I saw a lot of the same faces in the deli especially (and some old new ones, too), so I felt welcomed. The newer staff were attentive to the customers (and there were lots of fresh customer faces in my visits there). I was thrilled to see such an increase in the cheese selection. I didn’t notice a huge hike in prices and was actually glad to see some good sales on products I enjoy. The checkers were offering forms to complete if there’s a product anyone wants to request, which was nice. All in all, I’m pleased!
