Vandals spray-paint Village

Story by Steve Smalley
Graffiti vandals struck the Village last night in a spray painting spree that damaged several structures, exasperating property owners and neighbors.

?Now I have to paint,? said an angry James Kim, owner of Magnolia 76 gas station and convenience store. His business was just one of several hit in the area.?Kim said police caught six ?kids? allegedly responsible for the vandalism. Calls to the department were not immediately returned.

According to city law, property owners are responsible for graffiti clean up.

Mark Peyser, whose family owns the building in which Uptown Espresso is a tenant, was found scrubbing the area in back of his building.

?It?s driving me crazy,? exclaimed Peyser, as he rubbed solvent onto surfaces to remove spray paint.

?I?ve got brick guys coming,? he said of his residence, one of the tall homes behind the main Village area which were covered with paint on two sides. His family owns them as well. The bricks need professionals, he said, to make sure the finish is restored to its original condition.

A residential fence near the Church of the Ascension was also defaced.

  1. It’s odd that the they tagged businesses that are currently open. I remember reading that any tagging that is gang-related typically happens on buildings that are unoccupied. Looks like kiddos up to no good, spraying some surfaces that are going to cost a mint to restore. And the cost falls on the property owners, by law. Is it time to install camera’s in our awesome neighborhood? Has it come to that?

  2. I think the six kids that they caught should pay for it and clean it up! How else are they going to learn!

  3. You guys need to realize, that putting pictures up of there graffiti just gives them more credit. Which then pushes there “ups” even more. So think about it before you guys just make them famous, like you have done here.

          1. Heywood,? anytime you need to find information, simply use “google” search engine.? Try “tagger ZEB”, I just did and found tons of articles on the miscreant.

  4. Does anything ever happen to kids/adults when they are caught doing this. ? What, if any, are the penalties.
I remember an old movie, ?where Sean Penn played a cop.
He caught a kid doing this and held him down while spraying the kid with his can of spray paint.

  5. The only way to prevent crime is to make those considering it, fearful of the repercussions.?

    1) First offense – one digit removed (finger) off “trigger hand
    2) Second offense – trigger hand removed
    3) Third offense – trigger arm removed

We live in a whimpy society that is hamstrung by its own PC tendencies.

You make think this harsh, but I guarantee that if real punishment were enforced, you would see graffiti ….. all but disappear.

  6. Make Mom and Dad responsible for the clean-up.? You see the parents out there making amends for their little angels and I bet it won’t happen again!

  7. I noticed they used red, white and green. How festive. No really, they went to town this time, very annoying and frustrating for everyone.?

  8. You can buy antigraffiti paint which will allow you to wash graffiti off instead of having to repaint each time.
