Get ready to sample like crazy

Thriftway manger Josh Angle and checker Rose Hanni.

The annual Open House at the Thriftway in Magnolia begins tomorrow and staffers say it will be bigger than ever before.
?It will be elbow to elbow,? said store manager Josh Angle. ?There will be about 50 vendors, and I always tell people don?t eat dinner before you come.?
The open house allows Thriftway to showcase some of its vendors to budding customers especially as the holidays approach. Just about everything can be sampled throughout the market including chicken, beef, salmon, cheese, fudge and mushrooms. One vendor will be putting on a cooking clinic using chantrelle mushrooms.
There will also be plenty of Champagne. Anyone 21 and older, and who shows I.D., will be given four tickets good for four samples of Champagne in the Champagne garden. The garden will be located, fittingly, in the store?s floral department.
The event has been going on for about 15 years according to Angle who has been presiding over it the last five, ever since he came on as manager. It has grown, he said. ?We have twice as many as we?ve had before,? he said of his vendor list. ?It?ll be pretty big.?
The event is FREE and it goes from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, at the Magnolia Thriftway at 3830 34th Ave. W.
