Summerfest date set; Art Show in jeopardy

Magnolia?s annual Summerfest will be held on July 29-30 this summer.  The largest community event of the year for Magnolia has been moved back one week this year.  For the past two years it has been held in early August.  Marti Stave, festival chairwoman, says that the change should attract more participants to the Magnolia parade since it coincides with the Torchlight parade.

Stave also says that Summerfest really needs volunteers.  Currently in jeopardy is the annual Art Show.  No one has stepped up to run the show that has been a constant for the past 55 years.

This is one of the winners from the Art Show last year.  Stave says that anyone who is interested in taking on the show should get in touch with her right away.  She says there is a good guidebook put together by past chairs for anyone willing to take on the task this year.  If a volunteer is not found soon the Art Show won?t happen this year.

If you are interested in helping with the art show or any other aspect of Summerfest (volunteers are needed in all areas), you can get in touch with Stave at chair.magnoliasummerfest@gmail.com.

  1. After 55 years maybe it’s time to drop the Art Show. The quality of the entries have gone down hill from the 80’s and 90’s when there were so many more excellent artists entries. The show was very sad last year.
