Magnolia’s newest business helps pre and postnatal moms prevent injuries

Healing Mom’s owner Hilary Pentz (a trained physical therapist at MTI) writes:

“Based on years of experience treating women in our clinic, I have seen a lot of the same injuries and know that many of them can be prevented/treated. So I decided to start teaching women what I know so they can avoid getting injured in the first place.”

Courses will address urinary incontinence (leaking while sneezing/coughing), pelvic floor pain, sciatica, pubic symphysis pain, postures for breastfeeding, lifting your child out of the car/crib, carrying car seats, and more.

Pentz continues, “I am very excited about these courses – so much of what is currently out there focuses on the infant, but it’s important for mothers to take care of themselves too. I’m offering two courses –one for prenatal women and one for postnatal women. Each class will be at most 5 people so that each person can be evaluated.”

After studying child development and pre-med for four years at Tufts University, Pentz returned to Seattle and received a doctorate in physical therapy from UW. She then became a Board-certified orthopedic physical therapist. In addition, she completed a two-year residency and fellowship program in manual therapy that allowed her to deepen her expertise on soft tissue, mobilization of joints, and pattern recognition of injuries.
