Kindergarteners, first graders, second graders and third graders interested in camping, experiencing nature, cooking, serving the community and having tons of fun should consider the Girl Scouts.
This troop has 40 girls signed up and has plenty more space. It is a multi-grade troop and a father-run troop. Mothers are encouraged to participate and lead. The focus of this troop that meets in Magnolia is outdoor skills and service projects.
Last year the troop went on two camping trips, conducted a food drive, helped at a homeless shelter, learned how to build safe fires, toured an Air Force C17, made first aid kits, sponsored a girl from Kenya and of course, sold cookies.
The troop meets from 5:45-7 p.m., every second and fourth Wednesday at the Catharine Blaine K-8 cafeteria. An informational meeting for kindergarten scouts will take place at 6 p.m., Wednesday Oct. 5 at the cafeteria.
The next meeting for first, second and third graders is today (Sept. 28). If you have questions or want to join, contact Jim Petersen at jim.v.petersen@gmail.com.
