A man claiming to have a gun robbed the Key Bank in the Magnolia Village at 34th Ave West and West McGraw at about 12:15p.m. Saturday.
The suspect entered the bank and handed a note demanding money to a teller. The note said the man had a gun but no gun was seen. The teller handed money to the robber who then left the bank on foot headed northbound.
The bank teller was shaken in the incident but there were no injuries. No other customers were in the bank at the time of the robbery.
The suspect is described as a black male in his 40?s with a medium build. He is clean shaven. At the time of the robbery he was wearing a sweatshirt with a Corona Beer logo on it. Officers on the scene speculate that the robber may have been picked up quickly by a car that was waiting for him following the robbery.
Sgt. Robertson with Seattle Police tells us that there were officers nearby at the time of the robbery and they were on the scene minutes after the robbery call. The investigation continues at the scene as officers gathered fingerprints. They do have a photograph of the suspect from the security cameras of the bank.
If you see anyone matching the description of the robber, police encourage you to call 911.
Ah. That explains the police cars and why they were in such a hurry.

I’m generally a civil libertarian but see no meaningful loss of freedom if we could get traffic cameras installs on all three bridges. ?It would act as a?deterrent?to most of the serious crime in our neighborhood and probably solve this one.
The most progressive cities in the world (Amsterdam, Berlin, and so forth) are completely covered with cameras monitoring public spaces. ?I don’t see how cameras are any different than a patrolling cop happening to see something, unless there is some notion that law enforcement observation should only happen on the random?occasion?of a patrol and otherwise it isn’t fair?
Agree 100%. No excuse NOT to have cameras at the access choke points.
How would cameras on the bridges have solved this case?
The robbery wouldn’t have happened in the first place, or if it had they could have seen a car leaving down a bridge ( the only way off our hill) and got a description, or better yet a lic plate #.
Are you crazy?
Why would the robbery not have happened???The fantasy camera would have seen a lot of cars leaving Magnolia, but no one saw a “get away car.” Would you just suspect every car leaving Magnolia? The Police could stop all cars now if the had the resources( and we lived in Saudi Arabia, maybe)
I agree Larry! But, let’s also add a camera to the Locks. I heard that many yrs ago a bank robber was successful b/c rather than escape down a bridge, which were blocked by police, he fled across the Locks foot bridge! Clever, I must say. I do think cameras would help keep our neighborhood a littl e more safe. The DOT uses them on the freeways to monitor traffic, so what’s the difference?
There are plenty of gated communities for you people.
Wait wait wait, a crime in Seattle where they actually point out the suspects race/color? Wow…this must be a first. Oh wait, its the FBI that’s involved rather than the censorship prone Seattle PD.
