Wanted to pass along this warning from Magnolia Voice reader Mary:
Please alert your readers there’s a package thief in Magnolia. Thief stole a package left on our front porch by UPS deliveryman. Happened today between 3-6pm. Knew it was stolen right away because the jerk took the box and left the Milkbone our deliveryman always leaves for the dog. First time this has happened to us. We live near W Viewmont Way West/Barrett.
THis has happened several times to my sister who lives near 35th and McGraw. Once they even went to the trouble of opening up a package off of her baby registry and when they realized it was a bassinet or whatnot, they left it.

Lame. Where’s the best place to rent a private mailbox these days?
Sip and ship in Ballard maybe?
We suspect that a package was stolen from our porch last week as well. (I say “suspect” because Amazon did not provide tracking information for the package, and their story was that the package was “lost in transit.”) We’re near 30th and Armour.
We had the same thing last week with Amazon saying the book was “lost in transit.” We are at 29th and Emerson.
Someone got a lot of packages.
You need a motion detector web-cam to discover the culprit. And you need a sign informing visitors of that fact. Maybe the sign itself will do the trick. I live not far away so this kind of thing worries me.
I like the concept, and some have successfully obtained footage of the package grab, but then what? Police are not going to put a very high priority on a non-violent petty theft like this.
The idea being that the camera would deter them from taking it. Either way, you think the police respond to “hey there is this guy going from porch to porch, peering to see whats there” type calls? They don’t. I know, someone will reply with YES THEY DO but I assure you, calls have been made, no police have rolled by.
We have cameras on all of our doors and have seen a few things:
1: Police walking around at 3AM with a dog, looking for someone.
2: Some religious cult who waited 2-3 minutes before leaving (and noticing the camera).
3: A USPS employee throwing a box at our door instead of just putting it on the ground.
4: A beautiful cat I want to catch.
We also had a package stolen from our front door step on Wednesday last week – it was a large styrofoam box of dog food! We live near 38th and Montavista Place West. Makes me so mad!!
I am on W Viewmont Way W and someone took our packages, opened them, and return them several days later in the rain when they realized it was just baby stuff. Either that, or Fedex delivered to the wrong house…
We also believe we had a UPS package stolen from our porch in December, near 30th Ave. W. and Condon Way. The UPS guy who followed up on the complaint said that someone had been following a delivery truck and taking packages after they were delivered.
