From a purely monetary standpoint, one of the fattest traffic tickets drivers can receive is for speeding in a school zone ? fines start at $189.00 per offense, depending upon severity, according to the City of Seattle. Seattle police enforce this speed limit in the neighborhood, so don?t do it.
A Magnolia Voice reader wants to remind drivers in school zones on 34th and 32nd Avenues you are required to reduce speed to 20 mph when children are present or when lights flash on warning signs.
?This morning when I dropped my kids off, I was passed by no less than four cars and a school bus all going well over 20 mph. A couple had to be going at least 40 mph,? our reader says.
Remember to slow down 9-9:40 a.m. and 3:50-4:30 p.m. when school kids arrive and leave school, or prepare to face the consequences.
