A?Mountains to Sound Greenway planting event will be held in Seattle?s Discovery Park Saturday, November 2nd, from 9am-3pm.??Volunteers will help restore a site that was originally military housing and purchased by the City of Seattle.? According to Emily Neff, the organization’s Communications Director:

The Mountains to Sound Greenway is the 1.5 million-acre landscape connecting Puget Sound and central Washington. Its natural lands, rivers, and communities define who we are and how we live. The Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust leads and inspires action to conserve and enhance the landscape, ensuring a long-term balance between people and nature. Founded in 1991, the Greenway Trust works to preserve rural lifestyles, promote public land acquisitions, connect a continuous regional trail system, teach people of all ages about the importance of conserving forests and wildlife by creating new parks and trails and mobilizing thousands of volunteers.

Sponsored in part by Carter Subaru, KIRO Radio, and REI, and part of Green Seattle Day, the celebration will include native tree and shrub planting, food and vendors for the whole family to enjoy. This annual event is a great opportunity to get your hands dirty and help return this part of the park to a native forest. No experience is required.

To participate, please register online here.??The Greenway Trust is leading a bipartisan campaign to have the U.S. Congress designate the Mountains to Sound Greenway as a National Heritage Area. Click here for more information.
