Swedish Medical Center invites local guys?aged 40 and up to enjoy free drinks and appetizers while watching the Seahawks take on the Panthers this Sunday as part of a Prostate Health event called ??Know Your Stats?? at Hale?s Ales Brewery in Ballard.? Swedish is hosting the event to better educate men about the recent controversy surrounding prostate health.
Prostate cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer effecting men. An estimated 241,740 men in the United States will be diagnosed in 2012 with prostate cancer, and roughly 28,170 of them will not survive the disease, according to the American cancer society. If caught early, however, prostate cancer can be very effectively treated. An estimated 2.5 million American men who were diagnosed and treated early are still alive today.? Screenings such as the Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) test can be vital to identifying the disease at an early stage. The US Preventative Task Force recently rescinded their recommendation for men 40+ to receive regular PSA screenings, a simple test that detects cancer cells in the prostate.? Swedish aims to bring clarity to the situation and provide the community with a clear sense of what screening and treatment options are available for prostate cancer.
Event goers at ?Know Your Stats? event will have an opportunity to speak with the region?s top urologists and robotic-assisted surgeons as well as individuals who have experienced prostate cancer firsthand.
