The Community Fruit Tree Harvest, (a project of Solid Ground)?is asking for?your help this summer through fall.? The task is simple and enjoyable- spend?some time?walking around beautiful Magnolia looking for fruit trees, picking fruit, or delivering boxes of fruit to people who would greatly appreciate it. ?Amanda Lee, Lettuce Link Harvest Coordinator says last year, they harvested 390 pounds of fruit in Queen Anne and Magnolia alone, and that there are many ways to help with the project:
Be a harvest? leader- get to know and share food with your neighbors while keeping that beautiful, organic fruit in your neighborhood from going to waste! Harvest leaders coordinate 1-2 harvests per week in their neighborhoods and make sure the fruit is donated to local food banks, shelters and meal programs. Mileage is reimbursed and fresh fruit abounds. Please see the position description for more details. Volunteer on a? crew-
- Harvest at scheduled work parties or at an on-call basis
- Provide garage space to store equipment (ladders, picking buckets and/or fruit)
- Deliver fruit to food banks and meal programs
