Do you wish bars stayed open later? The Liquor Control Board says ‘speak up’

The Mayor asked for it and the City Council approved it. Now it’s time for the Liquor Control Board (LCB) to discuss a rule change that would give local jurisdictions the opportunity to petition for extended hours of alcohol service.

From the LCB website:

Under Washington Administrative Code 314-11-070, liquor sales are prohibited between the hours of 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. Mayor McGinn and the Seattle City Council are seeking a new section that would allow local governments to petition the LCB to establish extended hours of alcohol service within local jurisdictions.

The Mayor started the discussion to extend alcohol service as part of his Seattle Nightlife Initiative, which aims to maintain public safety and improve support for local businesses. (Read previous coverage here.)

The LCB hearing is Monday, March 12 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Bertha Knight Landes Room of Seattle City Hall (600 Fourth Ave.)

Prior to making a determination of whether to pursue rulemaking, the Board is interested in hearing from community members and leaders, communities surrounding Seattle, law enforcement at the local, county and state level, neighborhood and community groups and other interested parties.
This is your opportunity to provide your comments to the Liquor Board at this hearing.  Whether you support the City of Seattle’s request or oppose it, we want to hear from you.
