Ready to help Successful Schools in Action?

This Sunday, runners from all over Magnolia, Queen Anne and beyond will be taking in the views of Magnolia Boulevard on foot during the neighborhood’s first annual Run the Bluff 12k and 5k race.

Runners and walkers will start at the Magnolia Playfield, head south to Magnolia Boulevard West where they will be treated by the neighborhood’s expansive views of Elliott Bay. For 5k’ers, the course loops north and back to the playfield. But 12k’ers double back on the boulevard, then one more time before banking around West Emerson Street and returning by 32nd Avenue West.

The finish line area will feature live music, an award ceremony and yes, a beer garden, which will open at 10 a.m.

Those who are already signed up should pick up the pre-race packet between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 8, at Crossfit Interbay at 4036 23rd Ave. W. But anyone can sign up online or near the starting gate the day of the race. So far, more than 70 percent of the entrants are women, according to race organizers. Proceeds from the event will go to the Successful Schools in Action program.

Day-of-race information is as follows:

• 6:30 a.m.: Registration, bib and chip pick up

• 8 a.m.: Start of the 12k Run & Walk

• 8:30 a.m.: Start of the 5k Run & Walk

• 9 a.m.: Start of the post-race celebration

• 9:20 a.m.: Start of the Free Kids Dash

  1. I thought the Successful Schools in Action program was “shutting it’s doors”. To whom will the proceed now go?
