United Indians of All Tribes Foundation will host the 26th Annual Seafair Indian Days Pow Wow at Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center in Discovery Park this weekend. This colorful event features traditional Native American drummers, dancers in traditional regalia, Native American arts and crafts and traditional food.
This year’s Pow Wow also includes a special civic event as the section of Illinois Ave. that leads to the Daybreak Star Cultural Center will be renamed "Bernie Whitebear Way" to honor the founder of the United Indians of All Tribes Foundation. Attending the ceremony will be Mayor Mike McGinn, Parks Superintendent Christopher Williams as well as civic leaders and members of the Whitebear family.
Seafair Indian Days Pow Wow is open to the public and admission is $5 per person (over 12). It runs from 10a.m. to 10p.m. on Saturday (7/16) and 10a.m. to 8p.m. on Sunday (7/17) at the Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center in the park at 3801 W. Government Way. The ceremony for Whitebear is set for 2p.m. on Saturday.
Along with great food, expect performances of Native American dance and drumming contests featuring over 500 dancers and 25 drum groups.
Over 10,000 people are expected to attend this annual event so expect heavy traffic on Government Way both days. Due to the crowds expected for this event, Metro Route 33 will be rerouted.
Please let the event leaders know that Maureen McCaslin is sick and will not be able to work at the Pow Wow this evening.
