UPDATE: We had a couple of questions from readers about this break in. We heard back from the homeowner who said she does not know what time the break in occurred. ?We were gone between 7:30am and 5pm so do not know. They came in through our downstairs back door. It could have been a lot worse with checks, credit cards and sporting equipment but they looked to be more interested in the electronics and jewelry. We have a house alarm we use at night so have put into place daytime measures as well?
A reader wanted us to warn neighbors to be on the look out after a burglary at her home.
I just wanted report a break-in that happened yesterday on 25th Ave between Armour and Raye. Aside from our cars being broken into 3 times over the past couple years, we had someone come into our house yesterday and take our laptops, expensive camera and jewelry. A while back I had heard that there was a "mom" group of unassuming looking women that were breaking into homes in Magnolia. Based on the fact it appeared they spent time going through my closet, it seems likely it was a woman. Both neighbors were home at the time and had no idea we had been robbed. I reported it to the police and thought to send Mag Voice the info as a reminder to our community that we need to be aware of the continued thefts and do what we can to deter robberies.
Seattle Police encourage neighbors to call 911 anytime they see any suspicious activity.
Did this happen in the middle of the day? Early morning/late afternoon?
Also, interested in the method of entry? That info might help everyone better protect their homes.
News media NEVER post details like this or specific address info, or even say things like, “Police won’t tell us”. It’s totally baffling and I’ve never understood it.
I live on that block and I’m shocked! Like others I would love to know more…
Which house? My mother is on one of the corners of 25th Armour….I would like to keep her posted….I was there all day yesterday……Did not see any bad guys….
Sorry to hear about the break-in. An added way to get involved and watch out for each other is to organize a Block Watch. It’s good to know who your neighbors are, and what’s going on in your neighborhood. If something looks suspicious, it likely is. If it turns out to be nothing, then you won’t remain wondering if it was something else. http://www.seattle.gov/police/programs/blockwatch/default.htm
An update from my mother who lives on the corner of 25th and armour…she now tells me that an attractive young lady came to her door sometime in the early afternoon on Monday asking if she had seen a stray dog. The girl had brown hair and was carrying a duffel type bag. My mother asked the girl for her phone number so that she could call if she sees the dog, but the girl just walked away without saying another word. My mother says about an hour later she sees the girl walking down Armour street and notices that the bag looked full….my mother wondered if the dog was in the bag….that?s why it caught her eye. I am going to call the police Monday and be there to help my mother give any information she has to the police…
We just had a very similar sounding break-in at 28th Ave. W and Gilman (happened on Wednesday 9/7/11)…burglars came in through the back window (broke it) during the day (most likely between 10am and 12noon) and only took electronic equipment and some loose cash/change…they did not take credit cards or checks. Neighbors on both sides of our house were home and did not see anything. The burglars spent a lot of time rummaging through our belongings.
