Appreciate your neighbor on Saturday

Two Catherine Blaine students are winners for their artwork celebrating the 17th annual Neighbor Appreciation Day on Saturday (2/12).  Every year, Seattle students enter the contest with drawings depicting what it means to be a good neighbor.  The 15 winners were selected out of nearly 600 entries.

Julia Haworth a fifth grader from Catharine Blaine received a silver award.

Hannah Schubert a seventh grader from Catharine Blaine received honorable mention.

Neighbor Appreciation Day began in 1995 when a community activist  suggested that the City designate ?a special day to celebrate the goodness in those around us and to reach out and strengthen our bonds to each other.? It is always held the Saturday before Valentine?s Day.

As part of Neighbor Appreciation Day, all Seattle Fire Stations will be open to the public for tours and fire equipment displays from 11am ? 2pm.  Stop by Station 41 in Magnolia at 2416 34th Avenue West for a  chance to meet the firefighters in our neighborhood.

More than 50 public activities are happening around the city to recognize caring neighbors. Click here for the list.
