  1. I can’t attend this, but wanted to give a shout out to remove the old merry-go-round. My son broke his arm falling off that thing last year!

    1. Should we remove the swings too, in case another child jumps off and sprains his ankle? The climbing wall could be a dangerous thing, as well!

I’m very, very sorry about what happened to your son. It’s a tragedy, no doubt, and I can’t imagine how I’d feel were I in your place. But the merry-go-round is not, itself, unsafe. Removing it because of one injury is unfair to the hundreds of kids (and occasional parent) that do enjoy it.

Perhaps better, thicker ground cover (tire and fresh bark) would be a more suitable improvement.

      1. It’s the teeter totters of death that used to scare the you know what out of me as a kid.
All Joking aside, something has to be done about the bench cemented into the bottom of the hill. I can still hear the melon-like thump of some poor kid’s head as he was sliding down the hill in the snow and couldn’t avoid the mostly unused bench.

      2. Perhaps a better “landing surface” would help, but there are more modern merry-go-round designs that hold kids in when the centrifugal force gets too strong for them to hold on. Jumping off of a swing is a choice, but the speed of a merry-go-round is dependent on the choices of the person pushing it.

Unsafe playground equipment is removed or replaced all of the time, regardless of whether some people liked it. Sorry that you think that’s “unfair.”
