Another bank robbery in the Village

Updated: Seattle Police say a man robbed the US Bank on 31st Avenue and W. McGraw Street just after 11 this morning. Officers say the man “brandished a gun, and ordered customers and bank staff to get on the ground.” He left with an undisclosed amount of money.

He was wearing a yellow jacket, mask, and sunglasses, as you can see from the security photos provided by Seattle PD. Officers say he’s a white male with dark hair wearing a blue short-sleeved shirt and khakis.

KIRO 7’s chopper discovered officers in an alley about a block from the bank taking a yellow jacket out of a recycling bin. Police are continuing their search for the suspect.

If you see the suspect, call 911 immediately. If you have details about the crime, contact SPD at (206) 684-5535.

Last month, the Bank of America on 34th and McGraw was robbed. Two months before, the People’s Bank in the Village was hit, as well.

We’ll keep you updated on the search for the suspect in today’s robbery.

Earlier: Word is that US Bank in the Village has been robbed.

  1. Wow, that is insane. Bank robbers, house prowlers, and garage break-in’s. Magnolia isn’t so safe as we thought.

  2. This report at 11:19…please update with your comments if the situation is resolved…SEATTLE ?

Police are searching for a suspect who robbed a bank in Seattle?s Magnolia neighborhood.

The robbery occurred at the US Bank at 3124 West McGraw Street.
Customers may have been ordered to the ground.

The man may have been wearing a yellow jacket and could be 5 feet 7 inches tall with a medium build.
He may have changed his clothes in a portable toilet.
Video from Chopper 7 showed officers in an alley about a block from the bank taking a yellow jacket out of a recycling bin.

  3. LIKE I SAID… add automatic gates to the 3 bridges. Bank robbery? Hit the button. Police go to gates, screen cars. Problem solved.

    1. Not really. There’s no evidence that they are leaving Magnolia, at least immediately.

      1. Absolutely. 100% they are from outside Magnolia. Criminals rarely strike in their own neighborhood. Too easily ID’d, especially with something like this.

        1. I can’t think of a better way to blend in. Shed the mask and coat and you’re someone who BELONGS here, standing in line at Starbucks. Don’t forget, our female burglar a few weeks ago was a local.

    2. How would an automatic gate affect someone on foot who waits a while then walks around it? The area around the “welcome to Magnolia” sign coming up the bridge is so wide anything could go around it. I thought they used to do things like spray the money so it turns red after an hour or something.

  4. And somebody put a checkpoint at the walkway across the locks!!! A bank robber used that route back in the 60s.

    1. Great link, thanks for posting. Yes, I was also wondering how, given the state of technology in 2013, robbing banks hasn’t been engineered out of existence. Most 24 hour gas stations have figured this one out. Why can’t banks?

  5. I saw a police car parking on the Magnolia bridge this morning to catch speeding. Go get the robber or just park on W McGraw. No wonder we have three robberies in three month.
