Suspicious person sighting last night

We received this email from a concerned tipster early this morning:

Last night between 10:45 and 11pm? in the alley between Westmont Way West and Crestmont Pl West, there was a person walking back and forth with a flashlight making stops at several garages. Also, a small dog seemed to be following the person. Given the late time and how cold it was, it was strange to think that it was a late-night dog walker. Does anyone know anything about this event, or know that it was indeed a person walking his/her dog braving the night and cold?
Many thanks, Magnolia resident

  1. Hmm, I think some people stay up past 10PM. I also think people walk their dogs early in the morning and late at night and the dogs dont care what the temp is– they really need to go.

  2. I walked my dog last night around 11pm and it was cold as heck out. I dont think my dog was very happy about this, needless to say when we got back inside he proceeded to drink whiskey and beat me until I apologized.

  3. Umm I think the concern is that this person was stopping at several garages shining a flashlight around, not the fact that a dog was following. I think it’s a good topic to be brought up considering all the crime that has been happening in Magnolia over the recent months.

  5. It could be someone looking for their other creature. One time, when I lived in a different neighborhood, my cat got out late at night, and I went looking for her with a flashlight. I found her at my neighbor’s house, and she’d wait until I got just in reach before she dashed off again.

The whole time, I was terrified that the neighbor would have a gun and burst outside and I’d be shot. Though it’s good to be cautious and ask questions (or simply say hello, and ask if they need help?), let’s not jump to conclusions and automatically assume it’s crime. But perhaps homeowners installing a few motion-sensitive lights wouldn’t be such a bad idea as a crime deterrent?
