The Winner

Magnolia resident Camille Murphy recently won the King-Snohomish County Spelling Bee, and will be representing?our region in Washington DC in late May at the Scripps National Spelling Bee competition.??The 12 year-old?took a few minutes to answer some questions for Magnolia Voice.

Q-How did?you?feel when? you?got your final word “dystopia”?

A-?I felt really excited, because I felt that I could win, but also I knew that I had to stay calm and spell it before celebrating.

Q-?How are you preparing for the national bee?

A-I am taking the sample tests online, being quizzed on a study list, and looking over the dictionary.

Q- What?are you?most excited and nervous about?

A-?I am most excited about exploring Washington, DC in tours and other events, and nervous that I’ll get out in one of the first few rounds.??

Q- Have you been in many spelling competitions?

A-?I started spelling bees in fourth grade, when our class had a few competitions, and in sixth grade, I got second place in my class bee, and second place in the school bee. This year, I was very determined to do well, placing first in my class, first in my school, and at my first ever regional spelling bee, I won!

We wish you the best of luck in May!
