A leisurely morning walk turned into something a little more traumatic for a Magnolia woman Sunday.?After an accidental spill on the pavement left her on the ground, bleeding with a split chin, dog walkers and joggers passed by without so much as a peep.
?I took a walk up Viewmont. I was crossing 42nd at Barrett when I caught a toe. I tripped and I caught myself on my chin,? she explained. ?I was extremely dazed, but I was conscious. I was bleeding heavily from my chin. (The blood) was all down my neck, in my hair, and all down my front. I was bleeding on everything.?
While she lay on the sidewalk, she came to realize no one was going to?help her.
?No one stopped,? she continued. ?I feel like I don?t look as though I was a risk to anybody. I don?t think I looked intoxicated, or dangerous in any way.?
A total of two pairs of people walking dogs, plus two separate joggers traveled past without a word, she recounted.
?I?m surprised that my Magnolia neighbors didn?t even stop. I feel like we take care of each other in Magnolia. I would have thought somebody would stop,? she said.
Our injured neighbor finally reached friends on the phone who came to her aid.

Have changing social mores transformed Magnolia, or was this incident just an aberration?
?I think things are changing here in the neighborhood. It was not the long-term residents who were passing me by,? she asserts. ?I feel like we have a lot of newcomers around here. There was a time when I felt my kids could go into the Village if they were in trouble and ask anybody on the street for help, and they would get it. I don?t think that?s true anymore.?
