Firefighters save home and family history

A family has the Seattle fire department to thank for saving their home and a lot of memories.

Just after 3 p.m. yesterday, calls came in about flames coming from the upstairs of a two-story house in the 2400 block of West McCord Place. Ballard’s Engine 18 was the first on scene and started the aggressive attack on the fire. Within 15 minutes, the fire was knocked down.

Photo albums and heirlooms saved by firefighters

After confirming that everyone was out of the house, firefighters pulled boxes of family pictures and heirlooms from the home and put tarps over other heirlooms to prevent them from water damage. “The homeowner said he was working on building a family history and he thanked firefighters for their efforts to save his possessions,” according to the Seattle Fire Line.

The fire investigator says this was an accidental fire caused by a frayed electrical cord to a night stand lamp. Damage is estimated about 100-thousand to the structure and 50-thousand dollars to the content.
